LAH CCTV – 10+ Camera Surveillance Installation
A 10+ camera HD surveillance system for Lilongwe Adventist Hospital — multi-channel NVR, high-capacity storage, UPS backup, and secure remote viewing. Deployed through Bits & Bytes Computers; commissioned, tested, and handed over for operational use.

The Brief
Lilongwe Adventist Hospital required reliable visual coverage of key indoor and outdoor areas, with footage retained on-site and accessible to authorized personnel. Bits & Bytes Computers contracted the deployment; I served on the installation team supporting deployment and configuration through commissioning and handover.
What Was Installed
10+ HD Cameras
Installed and aimed 10+ high-resolution cameras — 5+ outdoor units covering perimeters and entry points, 5+ indoor units covering corridors and service areas.
Multi-Channel NVR + Ample Storage
Installed and configured a multi-channel Network Video Recorder with a high-capacity surveillance-grade hard drive for continuous on-site footage retention, with channel headroom for future additions.
Dedicated UPS Backup
Connected the NVR directly to a dedicated UPS so recording continues through mains outages — no gaps in footage when hospital power drops.
Secure Remote Viewing
Configured authenticated remote access so authorized hospital personnel can monitor live cameras and review recorded footage from mobile devices or computers.
Result & Handover
The system was installed, configured, tested, and commissioned successfully, then formally handed over to Lilongwe Adventist Hospital for operational use — with an operation & maintenance guide covering:
- Power reliability for the NVR, UPS, and network equipment.
- Verifying cameras stay online and recording.
- Monitoring NVR storage and exporting footage before overwrite.
- Maintaining stable internet connectivity for remote viewing.
- Restricting system access to authorized personnel only.
- Periodic UPS battery checks.
- A fault-reporting process for issues and support requests.
Field Notes
Balancing Indoor and Outdoor Coverage
Entry points, perimeters, corridors, and service areas each needed a different mounting height and viewing angle. Camera positions were walked and verified on live view before final fixing.
Outage-Proof Recording
Hospital mains power is not guaranteed. The NVR runs on a dedicated UPS so recording continues through outages — verified by simulating a mains cut during commissioning.
Leaving the Client Self-Sufficient
The operation & maintenance guide covers storage monitoring, footage export before overwrite, access control, UPS checks, and fault reporting — so the system stays healthy after handover.
